The 2002 musical is based on the 1985 non-musical play and novel by Mark Harelik. Harelik’s other plays include “The Legacy” and (written with Randal Myler) “Hank Williams: Lost Highway.”

“The Immigrant” is directed by the West Coast Jewish Theatre’s Artistic Director, Howard Teichman. Born in Toronto, he moved to Chicago, where he became a member of the famed Second City troupe, for which he wrote an original play, “Commedia.” He received an MFA in Theatre from UCLA. His previous directing credits include “Last of the Red Hot Lovers,” “Sarah Sarah,” “The Value of Names,” “From Door to Door,” “Lost in Yonkers,” “Modern Orthodox” (L.A. Weekly Award nomination for comedy direction) and much more.

Teichman’s cast for “The Immigrant” includes (in alphabetical order) Cheryl David, Anthony Gruppuso, Gary Patent and Dana Shaw.

Stage manager: Priscilla Miranda. Set design: Kurtis Bedford. Costume designer: Michele Young.

“The Immigrant” was originally presented by Collaborative Arts Project 21, Inc., Frank Ventura , Artistic Director; Peter T. Van Wyck, Managing Director. “The Immigrant” was produced in 2002 and the play upon which it is based was commissioned and produced in 1985 by The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Donovan Marley, Artistic Director. The original Off-Broadway production of “The Immigrant” (2002) was produced by Hello Enteratinment.

An inspiring production of this musical is being presented by the West Coast Jewish Theatre Company, under the astute direction of Executive Director Howard Teichman, at the Pico Playhouse in West Los Angeles. There are four characters in this play and all four actors bring warmth through their acting as well as their singing.
